Take 230

7 Quick Takes Friday
--- 1 ---
I have a confession to make. I haven't read blogs since I moved to Boston. I feel like a hypocrite... but when I started working full time, it just... fell by the wayside. I really want to get back into it, but it's overwhelming. Books give me some continuity and peace as I commute, and blog posts make my life just feel faster paced and scattered. Ironic, isn't it?

This post went around this past week. I appreciated the line, "If the Lord wanted you to have a perfect mother, He would've given you one."

I went on a walk this week during my lunch break and discovered a beautiful memorial dedicated to 9 firemen who lost their lives in 1972 in the fire at Hotel Vendome. I didn't take a beautiful photo of it, but you can see the memorial here. I did a little digging and found this article, too. Wow. From the granddaughter of a fire chief, God bless those families.

I'm reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson right now. John Ames became a father very late in life and he writes to his son, "I wish I could help you carry the weight of many years, but the Lord will have that fatherly satisfaction." So. moving.

I was getting George dressed for bed this week and he started wiggling around, singing, "Got this feelin' in my booooday!" Thanks, JT. You make our life fun.

I finally got around to hemming my navy dress pants. Dang it if my legs aren't two different lengths. G'ahead and laugh... but it's just a 1/4 of an inch... and it happens every time I hem my pants. I measure them the same length... and my right leg is just simply shorter. And the pants don't fall to the exact same spot. No one's looking at my feet, though, right??? Right.

It was 61 degrees yesterday! Holy mild winter. Oh, and Virginia and I have made two batches of Christmas cookies that I didn't get around to baking for Christmas... And those perfect sugar cookies? I'm coming of you... I have a three day weekend and I'm planning to conquer! So, we're a little confused on seasons in our home.

  1. I just read Gilead too! I loved it--so beautiful! I should have just given in and underlined and dog eared my copy. :) So much wisdom!!

    1. I agree! I think we often wish we'd have written more down when it comes to wisdom... I often let it slip by!

  2. Very mild winter! I took my kids to the park last week twice and we weren't even wearing jackets.

    1. We went to a park yesterday... It's so much sunny here than where I came from--a TRUE JOY!
